UNTERFACE
New-coming word gives birth based on the change of social environment and its members. Due to COVID-19, HHI(Human to human interface) and HMI(Human to machine interface) experienced dramatic change. The horror of COVID-19 people mentioned does mean that interface itself is more focused on the un-contact interaction. And then, the word 'interface' is for the contact of two faces. So, instead of using 'interface', how about using 'unterface', which comes from combination of 'un' and 'interface'. Without contacting something, we still need controlling devices or services. Therefore, let me introduce 'UNTERFACE'.
Unterface could be a type of natural interface. You can refer its definition from wikipedia.org. But the term Unterface does not include 'haptic interface' nor 'tangible interface' nor 'gesture interface on the screen'.
HHU(Human to Human Unterface)
New coming digital product changes its MMI so far. But a robot in a cafe or restaurant can serve food instead of waiter or waitress. So there is no probability of infection. The barister or chef set a number of table in the cafe or restaurant with thier voice or gesture in the air then the robot serve coffee or food to the targetted table without traffic.
The spot of Boston dynamics Inc. can deal with interaction with infected person or specific issue on the COVID-19 affected space. It can detect a person with his sensor, understand order by voice or gesture and AI and deliver a food or medical stuff to the person who needs in the probable COVID-19 space. It's just my scenario not a actual function. So it can reduce HHI and increase HHU for the interaction.
HMU(Human to Machine Unterface)
In this video, human wears interface device on his arm. Without contacting it, human can control remote device without speaking, complex gesture. While speaking, human expose splash in the air. So if you can control something naturally without speaking, it could be a alternative solution of controlling digital products.
Human can move something from one place another in the limited space. But in the real situation, the drone could become a robot or flying vehicle with camera, sensors and AI. Then human can do complex job with his own control.
So far, we learned recent examples, some of them are made for commercial use, others are made only for the lab. but we can look out some of the future based on them.
